Set in the  small hamlet  of Aldingham, on the beautiful Northern shore of Morecambe Bay, ten minutes ride along the Coast Road to the ancient market town of Ulverston, St.Cuthberts is set within its own extensive, mature grounds and is attached to Aldingham Nursing Home, also part of the Risedale Group which is a handsome mansion with a fascinating history.

St Cuthberts is a purpose built nursing home specifically designed for people with Dementia; it has wide, bright corridors and all the rooms are on one level. It is a dedicated unit, with specialist staff providing 24 hour nursing care.

It is currently undergoing a period of change under the guidance of The Stirling University Design for people with Dementia Audit Tool ; where by colour contrast , use of  lighting and space is utilised and tailored specifically for people with dementia, in order to promote dignity , independence  and hence their quality of life.
St Cuthbert’s Nursing Home is registered to accommodate 43 nursing clients, offering 39 single rooms and two companion rooms, 19 of which have en-suite facilities.

The home has two delightful lounge / dining rooms, which overlook, and lead to, the enclosed patio gardens. There are also two smaller lounges which provide more intimate surroundings, prefect for family visits or quiet times.
An extensive, varied and nutritious menu is offered, catering for personal preferences and dietary requirements for clients of varying abilities. We aim to provide relaxed and unrushed mealtimes, maintaining independence and choice.
All bathrooms have specialised baths installed and the most sophisticated lifting equipment makes taking a bath an easy, safe and convenient pleasure.

Staff are highly motivated and specially qualified for their responsibilities and a continuous programme for updating nursing qualifications provides further assurance of Quality of Service.

We have a dedicated Activity Organiser who offers a wide range of social activities, and entertainment for our residents, which are tailored to suit both individual interests and abilities.  Their role also endeavours to promote strong links between friends , families and  the community with the unit, to enhance the quality of care provided, and make what can be a difficult time, a little easier.

Risedale have a Gold Standard trained link Registered Nurse who can be used by the home for advice.
Risedale has an ethos for training and development and has developed a registered training centre which is based at Abbey Meadow. The centre offers NVQ training in Care and the training and development award and RMA to their staff.  Staff undertaking these awards are well supported in the work place by staff, mentors, assessors & internal verifiers.

The personal services available to clients are extensive – from the Primary Nursing System through to hairdressing and chiropody. Such services are in addition to personal professional services each client may retain as they wish, for example, General Practitioner, Dentist, and Chiropodist.
